Overview of XITAN

XITAN HOTEL BEIJING

Most people dream about finding somewhere away from the hustle and bustle of the city, somewhere with peace of mind. Xitan Hotel Beijing, open for business this April, is just such a place.

Tanzhe Temple is older than the city of Beijing, as goes the saying. For the past thousand years, this solemn, ancient temple has stood, standing guard and protecting the tranquil villages of Tanzhesi Town. It is no doubt a paradise of suburban Beijing. And Xitan Hotel Beijing happens to be located in this blessed place.

Nine years ago, before the idea of renovating Old Yangpoyuan Village was broached, Xitan Hotel Beijing sowed a seed of hope for the far future. The hotel was built on the old site of Yangpoyuan Village in Mentougou, a district in the western suburbs of Beijing. Lying at the foot of the mountain about a thousand meters from the ancient Tanzhe Temple, it seamlessly and harmoniously coexists with the surrounding mountains, waters, and woods. The hotel took eight years to complete. After much thinking and pondering, it was decided that the hotel should preserve the nature and simplicity of western Beijing, offering more cultured aesthetics and the taste of life.

Charm of the Landscape

The redesign and construction of the Old Yangpoyuan Village site took eight years. The hotel has also preserved a number of 100-year-old trees, ancient architectural structures Tanzhesi Town and other cultural relics. It was built in such a way as to harmonize with the nearby mountain and waters. In other words, it was built on the premise of maintaining the original terrain, while fully considering the safety, privacy and protection of the ancient architectural structures and plants, enabling the building to  be fully integrated with the varied layers of the mountainous terrain, reflecting their charm. The landscaping of the hotel was done by oriental courtyard design guru Mr. Nomura and his team. After much effort, working with stone, piling the rockery, and channeling the water, they managed to preserve the basic historical and environmental style of this ancient village in western Beijing, turning the old site into an idyllic place that has a staying power despite its long history.

The hotel features the Chinese restaurant House of Rong, as well as a tea house, meditation room, coffee shop, whisky bar, meeting room & caviar bar, KTV, THX cinema, swimming pool, gym, spa, and other public amenities, as well as flexible leisure and meeting spaces. Subtly Elegant Courtyard

38 residences are rhythmically arranged in 10 courtyards, whose names all contain “Cui” (meaning green in Chinese and having the classical connotation of “range of green mountains or hills”). This idea of a return to nature has helped turn this land into a dreamscape.

The residences are named Baocui, Huancui, Dicui, Yingcui, Hancui, Lancui, Yicui, Rucui, Nuancui, and Yongcui, and they integrate with the garden scenery or offer views into the surrounding landscape. Their diverse design styles showcase their connection to nature. The design, relentless attention to detail and selection of international furniture reflect the establishment’s boundless, borderless, and timeless flavor throughout every corner.

The design of the courtyard guestrooms was inspired by Japanese residences and modern house furnishing. The design features such elements as wood, bamboo, cane, and rock to create a warm indoor atmosphere. Each room presents itself as painting, where the window serves as the canvas on which the mountains are painted – an artwork showing the beauty of changing with the seasons, lending the room a leisurely and tranquil atmosphere.

Nearby Scenic Spots
Mentougou, a district in the western suburbs of Beijing, is known for its mountains sprawling far and wide like a magnificent scroll painting. In this land is hidden a rich trove of cultural treasures. You can set out from Xitan Hotel and ride all along in search of the “Secret Tanzhe Trail”, a winding trail that leads to the ancient 1,000-year-old Tanzhe Temple at the mountain foot; here you can relax yourself by breathing in nature, whether you are in the foggy morning glow or in the sunset in the evening. In a 10-minute drive, you can reach Tanzhe Temple (the oldest royal temple in Beijing) or the Eight Caves of Wonder that are described as “magic caves made by Heaven and Earth”. In addition, a half-hour drive away from our hotel is Jietai Temple dubbed the “No. 1 Temple of the World”. The comparison between the two temples is best made by the saying “Tanzhe is famed for its spring and Jietai for its pines.” After all, both temples allow you to return to the ancient and natural Zen realm through oriental aesthetics and rich culture developed over 1,000 years. If you want to start from our hotel and explore the culture of the mountains of western Beijing, you can go to Tanzhe Temple, Dajue Temple, and Longquan Temple, which are representative of ancient religious culture; or you can visit Mount Miaofeng, which is representative of traditional folk customs and culture and just is as colorful, rich, and significant.

Xitan is where you have peace of mind and forget worldly concerns and worries. It is your home in the mountain.
